Amrita Bindra

This is a quiet corner of the internet where I keep my studying honest. I'm a Biomedical Sciences MS candidate at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, working toward medical school. Before Winston-Salem, I spent more than two years as an EMT in Las Vegas, first with American Medical Response and then on the medical team at The Venetian Resort.

Las Vegas taught me a particular kind of medicine. My patients came from all over the world to celebrate something, and instead met one of the worst moments of their lives far from home, on casino floors, in hotel rooms, at pools, often across a language barrier and with no family nearby. More than 4,000 hours of patient care taught me that medicine is mostly small, careful attention: reading a face, trusting your training, keeping calm when the room isn't.

I've also spent time at the other end of the continuum, as a hospice volunteer, and in the lab, with more than 3,000 research hours, including metabolism and mitochondrial biology work at UC San Diego and undergraduate research at the University of Tampa. I want this journal to hold the same posture toward learning: patient, curious, unhurried.
